The Research Ethics Committee (REC-ELMU) is a subcommittee under the ELMU Research Committee responsible for reviewing and approving research involving human participants to ensure it complies with ethical standards. The committee ensures that research proposals meet the necessary ethical requirements to protect the rights, dignity, and welfare of participants while promoting scientific integrity and accountability
Responsible for drafting, updating, and providing relevant research ethics guidelines for ELMU. These guidelines ensure that researchers adhere to ethical standards in the design, conduct, and reporting of research involving human participants.
Reviewing research proposals includes reviewing research methodologies, data collection methods, informed consent forms, and risk assessments.
The REC-ELMU is responsible for discussing and resolving any ethical issues that arise during the review of a research proposal. This involves evaluating potential risks to participants, ensuring that participants’ rights are protected, and addressing any concerns related to privacy, confidentiality, or the integrity of the research process.
Based on the discussion and resolution of ethical issues, the REC-ELMU makes a final decision on whether the research proposal is:
APPROVED: The proposal is ethically sound and can proceed as planned.
MINOR MODIFICATION: The proposal requires minor revisions or clarifications before approval.
MAJOR MODIFICATION: The proposal has substantive ethical or methodological issues requiring significant revision and re-review.
DISAPPROVED: The proposal raises significant ethical concerns that cannot be resolved through amendments, and the research cannot proceed in its current form.
Ensure that research complies with ethical principles such as respect for persons, beneficence, and justice, as well as compliance with local, national, and international ethical guidelines.
Overseeing the ethical conduct of approved studies by requiring regular reports from researchers, particularly for studies with ongoing participant involvement.
The REC-ELMU serves as an advisory body to researchers, providing guidance on ethical issues and helping researchers design studies that minimise risk and maximise benefit to participants.
Ensuring that the research process is transparent and that ethical considerations are documented at all stages of the research.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
